MEET MARK

NEW LEADERSHIP DELIVERING RESULTS FOR OUR COMMUNITY

Thanks for taking some time to get to know me.

Back in 1986-87, while working on my MBA at UCF I worked Saturdays in my soon to be mother-in-law's store -- Granny's Cottage on Baker Street, in Mount Dora. (Later on 5th Avenue). Like many people, I fell in love with the city and knew then that Mount Dora was my destination. In 1994, my wife Maria and I bought a vacant lot in the city and soon after built our home for our growing family.

We've raised our four children -- Margo, Erik, Benj and Annika -- all of them active in things like Robotics, Mount Dora Swim Team, Mount Dora School of Ballet, orchestra, string quartet and many other activities.

You'll also find me with Maria on a bench downtown on most weekends -- listening to Annika play her violin on the corner of 4th and Donnelly. You might also see Maria and me biking around town, our favorite date night activity.

While raising our family, I picked up another degree -- Master of Arts - Applied Economics -- and have worked in a variety of corporate positions at places like Disney, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Rasmussen College and Chamberlin Partners where I am the Vice President of Operations for a cutting edge marketing firm.

I've also taught graduate/undergraduate courses in economics and finance at several local colleges. I've even owned a local business for 8 years -- Mermaid Pools, and been involved with Maria's magazine - The Bunk Room.

I've also been involved with the Mount Dora Charter Review Committee, Leadership Lake County Class of 2001, Lake County Environmental Protection Advisory Board, Lake Sumter State College Foundation, WorldClass Lake County Schools and other community committees.

Growing up in Wisconsin, along the shores of Lake Michigan, I could never imagine that I would spend my adult life in such a beautiful city, full of festivals and so much to offer.

I'm offering myself, my expertise and passion to continue to make Mount Dora the beloved city that it is. I'm also asking for your thoughts -- What makes Mount Dora so wonderful to you? What is it that we have to make sure we get right in the years to come?

Thank you, my fellow citizens, for entrusting me with this responsibility. You can expect to have a thoughtful, direct, yet gracious person working for you.
